Platoon isnt shit anymore, unit spacing means they dont spend a year dressing ranks before firing they just crack on with it.

Honestly I think theres more battle changes than campaign ones but I've just thought of a couple more so I'll throw them in too.ДЇiring drills. The range difference means terrain and manoeuvre are the name of the game and it's often a good idea not to like up your troops in one line but to have perhaps 2 combat lines and a contingent of reserves, dragoons suit but infantry work.ДЇatigue is much greater, you tire quicker and recover quicker so rotating troops Roman style can give good results. Howitzers give indirect canister fire now, no ball shot only explosive, canister and chemical, and are great for securing the flank on uneven terrain. (8 cannon to a set means any more than 3 and you haven't enough boots on the ground) Dragoons and elephants also have separate weighting so they build armies as a human would.

In the research for that I discovered a siege manual and it all snowballed from there.ДЄrmy composition for the ai is much better, they have a small discrepancy in what they can recruit but it's basically a general, 2 cannon, 4 horse and 13 infantry but 4 or so are light and 2 or 3 heavy and it balances among that. The ranges being 200 came from figuring out why the thin red line of the british was constantly beaten by napoleonic tactics when it was designed to face it.

Much more realistic I think, actual historical tactics work well, that was something that took hours and hours of testing and then massive amounts of research to figure out why it didn't work.
